I am semi-retired and have been creating eggs since October 2001.  My sister took me to someone’s house that was also in Eggshell Art and I was immediately “hooked”.  I wanted to start immediately.

I purchased my first drill and go my hands on some eggs and I was on my way.  I called the manufacture of the drill and they had some bits and supplies to offer and I promptly ordered them.  There was a tape showing how to carve an egg and I could hardly wait to get started.

I carved an Ostrich egg and put a darling angel inside and showed it to a supplier located in Lewisville, Texas, and to my amazement, she thought it was rather good.  She talked me into going to the Dallas show in 2002 and I won a 2nd place ribbon on the Ostrich egg I had carved.  That put me on the road to many more eggs and surprises and lots of friends.

I will confess that my chin dropped when I went to my first show and I did not want to take my eggs out of the boxes because they were so “bad” compared to the eggs I saw on the other tables.  I finally did and I did sell one egg at that show, the one egg my husband had said I didn’t need to take, but this only proved that you never know what someone will like.  TAKE THEM ALL!

When I started egging I worked at a CPA firm full time and had very little time to spend on eggs.  In 2003 we moved to Seymour and I thought I would have all the time in the world, but I still do not have enough time.  Between working part-time, keeping a yard going and enjoying our families and friends it all works into the time to create eggs.  I can work for hours on my eggs and never realize lunch as come and gone, dinner has come and gone and it is now past my bedtime.  I am a very lucky person to have a very supporting husband that never says “Can you stop with your eggs for now”.  He is my best supporter and says he thinks I am the happiest when I am working on eggs.  He is correct.  I hope I can do it for many years to come.

There is a Masters Program that the International Egg Art Guild provides and I have passed the Novice division of the Diorama, Filigree Cut and Carved.  I am working on my Intermediate of each of these divisions presently.  After Intermediate there is then Master, so I am two levels away.
